JEE MAIN Admission criteria to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI), Institutions funded by participating State Governments and other Institutions shall include the performance in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE(Main). The (B.E./B.Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced),  which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programs offered by the Indian Institute of Technology(IITs)

National Testing Agency (NTA) JEE Main 2023 will be a fully computer based test (online) to be held in two Session January & April 2023.

The JEE (Main) - 2023 will be conducted in 02 (two) sessions for admissions in the next academic session. The candidates will thus benefit in the following ways:-

1. This will give two opportunities to the candidates to improve their scores in the examination if they are not able to give their best in one attempt.  

2. In the first attempt, the students will get a first-hand experience of taking an examination and will know their mistakes which they can improve while attempting for the second time.

3. This will reduce the chances of dropping a year and droppers would not have to waste an entire year.

4. If anyone missed the examination due to reasons beyond control (such as the Board examination), then he/she will not have to wait for one entire year.

5. A candidate need not appear in both Sessions. However, if a candidate appears in more than one Session then his/her best of the JEE (Main) - 2023 NTA Scores will be considered for preparation of Merit List/ Ranking. 

NTA JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (JEE-MAIN)

NTA JEE Main is a national level entrance conducted to fill the various seats under all the bachelor level engineering courses, every year. JEE Main score is validated across all the engineering colleges in India.

JEE MAIN 2023 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

JEE MAIN Age Limit : There is no age limit for the candidates.

For appearing in the JEE (Main) - 2023, there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed the class 12/equivalent examination in 2021, 2022, or appearing in 2023 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE (Main) - 2023 examination. However, the candidates may be required to fulfill the age criteria of the Institute(s) to which they are desirous of taking admission.   

Qualifying JEE MAIN Examinations : 

i.         The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized central/ State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.

ii.        Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.

iii.       Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy

iv.       Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.

v.        Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

vi.       Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.

vii.      A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 year duration.

viii.       General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/SriLanka) at the Advanced(A) level.  

ix.         High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University orInternational Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.  

x.        Candidates who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian

xi.       Universities (AIU) to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination. 

xii.       In case the Class 12 Examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier.  

Year of Appearance in JEE MAIN Qualifying Examination : Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2021, 2022 or or those who are appearing in Class 12/equivalent examination in 2023; are eligible to appear in JEE(Main) -2023 Examination.

Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2020 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2024 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)–2023.

Candidates must note that the IITs permit only two attempts for the JEE (Advanced), i.e. a candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2022 or 2023, subject to the condition of not having been admitted at an IIT on earlier  occasion.

Admission to NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, SFIs, State Engineering Colleges in the Participating States and Other Participating Institutions including UPSEE :
Eligibility for Admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB):

Admission to B.E. / B.Tech / B.Arch / B.Planning. Courses in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on All India Rank subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class / Qualifying examination conducted by the respective Boards.  For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12thclass / qualifying examination.
Required Criteria based on Class 12th / Equivalent qualifying Examination B.E/B.Tech : Passed qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject.

Eligibility for Admission to Other Institutions:
The above-mentioned policy could also be adopted by other Technical Institutions participating in counselling through JoSAA/CSAB. In case a State opts to admit students in the engineering Colleges affiliated to State Universities, the State may prepare a separate rank list based on criteria decided by them.
For all admission related procedures/queries, the candidates are advised to refer to the website of JoSAA, Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), or the concerned State Government/Institute after the declaration of result/ranks of JEE (Main) 2023.

Important Note for Multiple Choice Questions: To answer a question, the candidates need to choose one option corresponding to the correct answer or the most appropriate answer. However, if after the process of challenges of the key, more than one option is found to be correct then the multiple correct options will be given four marks (+4). Any incorrect option marked will be given the minus one mark (-1). Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no marks.
•    In the JEE MAIN total number of questions has been Increase.
•    As per the JEE Main Exam pattern 2023, the question booklet of B.E./B.Tech. Will have a total of 90 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. 

•    Each Subject will have two sections. Section A will be of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) and Section B will contain Questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. In Section B, candidates have to attempt any five questions out of 10. There will be negative marking for both Section A and Section B. 

•    The total number of questions for JEE MAIN Paper I would be 20 MCQs + 5 Questions with answer as numerical value.
•    While the MCQs will have negative marking in cases where candidate marks a wrong answer, there is no negative marking for the other questions.
•    In continuance to the changes, the agency has also notified changes in tie-resolving norms. This year onwards, having lesser number of negative responses in the paper can fetch a candidate good rank in case there is a tie. Other criteria like mathematics score, physics score, chemistry score will be followed, in the same order, along with the age criteria. In case all the above rules fail to resolve the tie, candidate older in age would be given higher rank.
Choice of Medium of JEE MAIN 2023 Question Papers: The medium of Question Paper shall be in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and Gujarati.
The option of question paper language should be exercised while filling up the Application Form and it cannot be changed at a later stage.
Please note that for correctness of the questions in all the question papers, the English version will be taken as final.

JEE Main 2023 Application Form:
Candidates have to apply for JEE (Main) -2023 Online ONLY by accessing the websites. www.nta.ac.in and jeemain.nta.nic.in .
The NTA JEE MAIN Application Form other than online mode would not be accepted, in any case. Only one application is to be submitted by a candidate.
More than one application i.e. Multiple application forms submitted by a candidate will be rejected.

The entire application process for JEE (Main) 2023 is online, including uploading of scanned images, payment of fees, and printing of Confirmation Page, Admit Card, etc. Therefore, candidates are not required to send/submit any document(s) including Confirmation Page to NTA through Post/Fax/WhatsApp/Email/by Hand.
